(2) Stockbridge Transit Center (shuttles for crane-viewings)

0.6 mi. west of Bud Werner Memorial Library; Turn left at first light past 13th Street.

(3) Steamboat Lake State Park Marina (Scenic Excursion by Pontoon Boat)

From the Library head northwest on Lincoln Avenue/US Hwy 40 toward 13th St. for 1.3 miles. From Steamboat (Hwy 40), drive North on CR 129/Elk River Rd. Continue to follow CR 129 for 26 miles. Turn left at CR 62. Take the 2nd left into Steamboat Lake State Park (Dutch Hill campground). Continue on this road until you nearly reach the end. Turn left opposite the Laundry building into the lower parking lot. Park close to the swim beach. Meet at the picnic tables in front of the marina store. Allow at least 45-60 minutes from the library.  $9/vehicle day use fee or CO State Park Pass required.

(4) The Nature Conservancy’s (TNC) Carpenter Ranch

Approximately 20 miles west of Steamboat Springs, look for a small white sign on the north side of US Hwy 40 for “Carpenter Ranch”; turn onto the dirt road and park at the Visitor Center. Drive time is ~25 minutes from the Library.

(5) Yampa River Botanic Park and Trillium House

From US Hwy 40/Lincoln Ave turn west on Emerald Park Ln at the Hampton Inn and Suites sign. Continue over the railroad tracks. Turn left into the parking lot. Walk to the park entrance. The park can also be accessed by walking or biking on the Yampa River Core Trail. Trillium House is the Park’s Headquarters and can be found in the southwest corner, at the far end of the Botanic Park. Give about 10 minutes to walk from the parking lot to Trillium house. Drive time is ~10 minutes from the Library.

(6) Mt Harris (Mount Harris History and Birds Walk)
Along Hwy 40 west of Steamboat Springs

From Steamboat, take Hwy 40/Lincoln Ave west (toward Milner and Hayden). 6.8 miles past Milner, turn into the pull-off on the south side of the Hwy. There is a historical marker here for Mt Harris and it is directly across Hwy 40 from CR 52. Once you pull off, there will be someone there to direct you to the parking area further down the road. Drive time from Library is about 25 minutes.

(7) May-Wood River Ranch

From US Hwy 40/Lincoln Ave, travel west toward Hayden. Turn right (north) onto Elk River Road. Drive ~5 miles and turn left into the driveway (this is after a sharp bend to the right). Cross over the bridge and you will be directed to parking. Drive time from Library is about 10 minutes.

(8) Catamount Lake House (Rehder Ranch Bird Walk)

From US Hwy 40/Lincoln Ave, travel south towards Oak Creek. Turn right onto Hwy 131. Turn left onto CR 18 (it occurs at a bend in the hwy). Go past the 1st entrance to Catamount (Water’s Edge Trail) and turn left into the 2nd Catamount entrance (Water’s Edge Trail). Park in the parking lot. Drive time from Library is about 25 minutes.

(9) The Hayden Granary

Hayden, CO

The Greater Sandhill Crane Mural is located on the silo next to Wild Goose Granary. Approximately 30 miles west of Steamboat Springs. Take Hwy 40 to Hayden, turn right on N Spruce Street and go to the end of the street.

(10) Fish Creek Falls

From US Hwy 40 (Lincoln Ave.) go north on 3rd Street and turn right onto Fish Creek Falls Rd. Continue 4 miles to parking lot. $5/vehicle day use fee.

(11) Steamboat Ski Resort (Guided Nature Walk)

From downtown Steamboat: From Steamboat Springs, take Lincoln Ave south and get off the ramp for Mount Werner Road.  For free parking, turn right onto Pine Grove Road. Turn left onto Bangtail Way and then left into the Meadows Parking Lot. This is free parking for the ski mountain and a shuttle will bring guests to the base area Thursday – Monday throughout the festival from 9:30 am – 6:00 pm. For paid parking ($15/day) within walking distance of the gondola, you can continue along Mount Werner Road and turn left onto Mount Werner Circle and park in the Steamboat Square Parking Garage next to the base of the ski area and across the street from the Steamboat Grand. Proceed to the entrance to the gondola (look for the blue awning) where the Nature Walk will begin. (12) Larkin Property (Nature’s Educators Live Raptor Photo Shoot)

From the Library parking lot, turn right at the traffic light onto Lincoln Ave (US 40). Turn right onto 5th Street (traffic light) (approx. 0.6 miles). Proceed towards the Rodeo Grounds. After crossing the railroad tracks, take your immediate left onto Howelsen Parkway (which turns into RC 14, River Road). Just after passing the south entrance to Dakota Ridge on the right and the parking lot to Chuck Lewis Conservation Area on the left, you will turn right onto Elk Lane. (approximately 3.8 miles from the rodeo grounds). Note: You will see signs for Steamboat Pines, Country Green and Agate Creek Preserve. Proceed straight up Elk Lane. Do not turn off to Country Green on the left or to Humble Road on the right. As you climb up Elk Lane, you will pass through several sharp switchbacks. When Elk Lane briefly flattens out, you have reached your destination. Turn left at the second driveway 30225 and 30215 Elk Lane. (2.3 miles). You will be directed to parking. Drive time from the Library is ~ 15 minutes.

(13) Loudy-Simpson Park

Craig, CO

From Steamboat: Head west on Hwy 40 towards Craig. Once in Craig, turn left (south) onto Ranney Street (Hwy 394), go over 2 bridges and just after the 2nd bridge, turn right (west) into the parking lot). Meet at the kid’s playground under the shade trees.

From Craig: From Downtown Craig on Hwy 40, turn south onto Ranney Street (Hwy 394), go over 2 bridges and just after the 2nd bridge, turn right (west) into the parking lot). Meet at the kid’s playground under the shade trees.

(14) West Twin Cinema (film: Cranes of the Rockies)
29 E Victory Way
Craig, CO

From Steamboat: Head west on Hwy 40 towards Craig. Once in Craig, the cinema will be on your right, just before Hwy 13. The cinema is about 41 miles from downtown Steamboat and drive time is about 1 hour from the Library.

From Craig: The cinema is located just east of Hwy 13 on E Victory Way in downtown Craig. You will need to be traveling west on E Victory Way or be on Russell Street to access the cinema.
