CCCC’s annual photo contest runs from September – August; entries are due in mid-August. This is a fun contest for both amateur and professional photographers to share photos of Yampa Valley and Rocky Mountain Sandhill Cranes.
CCCC’s annual Photo Contest is a fun contest for both amateur and professional photographers and is geared toward photos of Yampa Valley and Rocky Mountain Sandhill Cranes.
2024 Photo Contest Results:
Winner’s were announced at the 13th annual Yampa Valley Crane Festival on August 31, 2024 and received cash prizes. The photo contest consisted of five categories:
Category 1: Yampa Valley Greater Sandhill Cranes (Routt & Moffat Counties) Amateur:
1st place – Lee Sussman “Head over the Tall Grass”
2nd place – Gary Tyson “Morning Landing”
Honorable Mention – Anita Merrigan “Jumping for Joy”
Honorable Mention – E. Carter Chadwick “Spring Splendor”
Category 2: Yampa Valley Greater Sandhill Cranes (Routt & Moffat Counties) Professional:
1st place – Kathy Simpson “Magic of Flight”
2nd place – Annette Zuber “Sublimity”
Honorable Mention – Grant Knisely “Showoff”
Honorable Mention – Karen Mack “Hiding in the Grass”
Category 3: Rocky Mountain Greater Sandhill Cranes outside the Yampa Valley – Amateur and Professional:
1st place – Mike Endres “Sandhills over Sangres”
Category 4: Altered Reality Images of Rocky Mountain Greater Sandhill Cranes within and outside the Yampa Valley – Amateur and Professional:
1st place – Annette Zuber “Everybody Dance”

1st place tie: Kathy Simpson “In Unison” and Mike Endres “Afternoon Liftoff”

By submitting photos to the contest, you are agreeing to allow the Colorado Crane Conservation Coalition, sponsor of the Yampa Valley Crane Festival, to use your photo or video with appropriate credits on promotional materials and as part of the festival. Winning photographs and video, with credit, may be featured in national promotion of the Yampa Valley Crane Festival.
