Colorado Crane Conservation Coalition (CCCC) Unveils New Writing Competition and Scholarship for High School Seniors
We invite all high school seniors in Routt and Moffat counties to submit an original piece of writing inspired by our Greater Sandhill Cranes to the Colorado Crane Conservation Coalition Writing Competition. Submissions should be sent to: CCCCwritingcontest@gmail.com.
The writing may take the form of several styles:
- poetry (a group of three poems)
- fiction (a short story or one-act play between 750-1500 words)
- non-fiction (a personal or academic essay between 750-1500 words)
The work must be original and accurately reflect the physical characteristics, behavior and habitat of the species.
CCCC will have the right to use all submissions, with appropriate author credit, for publicity purposes.
The first-prize award is a $1,500.00 scholarship. Second and third place winners will receive a certificate and a book about cranes.
The deadline for submission is April 1, 2018. Judges, who will be selected by the CCCC Board of Directors, will determine 1st, 2nd and 3rd places. The winners will be announced by the end of May.
The winners will be announced on the CCCC’s website and other media, as well as from the podium during the Yampa Valley Crane Festival.
The first prize award is dependent on the winner’s acceptance into a continuing education institution. If the winner is not registered by November 1 of the year of the award, the scholarship will be awarded in sequence to a runner-up who can qualify.
